Michele Brourman

Michele Brourman is the winner of the Johnny Mercer Award for “Emerging American Songwriter.”  A frequent performer in ASCAP’s songwriter concerts, she has appeared in the prestigious Lyrics & Lyricists Series at new York’s 92nd Street Y, at the Smithsonian Institute, UCLA’s Schoenber Hall, and at Carnegie Recital Hall.

Her songs have been recorded by Olivia Newton-John, Donny Osmond, Rita Coolidge, Sheena Easton, Thelma Houston, Michael Feinstein, Heather McCrae, Cleo Laine, Melissa Errico, and  Amanda McBroom. She’s written songs for television – for the TV series Cagney & Lacey, 
Santa Barbara, and Designing Women, and for Jim Henson’s Animal Jam, as  well as for the critically acclaimed films Shiloh and Shiloh Season.

Michele  has  co-written  (with lyricist Amanda McBroom) and produced the songs for twelve animated features for Universal Studios, including eight sequels to The Land Before Time, as well as for Balto2: WolfQuest, American Tail4: Night of the Manhattan Monster, The Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein, and Hercules and Xena: the Battle for Mount Olympus (nominated for an ANI award for music.)  Three of the songs from the two most recent releases, were nominated for DVD Premiere Awards. Brourman’s film scores include the Golden Eagle award-winning documentary “A System in Shambles” for PBS and Dixie Carter’s two platinum selling Yoga videos, both for MCA.

She composed all the dance and incidental music for the original Broadway production of Studs Terkel’s Working.  For director Steven Kent, she has scored eight plays, including the premiere of Jo Carson’s award winning Daytrips at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, and later another Jo Carson premiere, “Whispering to Horses at Seven Stages in Atlanta.  Recently, she has completed a new musical, I Married Wyatt Earp, with collaborators Sheilah Rae and Thomas West ; it has had readings at Tennessee Repertory Theatre, at  the Berkshire Theatre Festival and most recently, a production at Hartt College.

Over the past several years, Brourman has been the musical director for numerous artists, most notably,  Dixie Carter and Amanda McBroom.  She has created special musical material for singers ranging from Aretha Franklin and Judy Collins to Crystal Gayle and Charo, was a staff writer for NBC’s John Davidson Show, and played piano in Bob Dylan’s band. She has two teenage sons, Noah and Luke, and has just completed her first CD – “Fools and Little Children.”
